Independence Day

The Pledge of Allegiance
I Pledge Allegiance to the flag of the United States of America
And to the Republic for which it stands,
One Nation under God,
Indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

Fourth of July, 2008. I'm a rather patriotic sap. This holiday is probably my favorite holiday of the year. Nothing is expected of me on this day. Well, almost nothing. I have frozen hamburger patties and hot dogs in the freezer/fridge. I also picked up plenty of buns to accomodate either of those meat choices. A selection of chips, baked beans, some homemade cookie dough brownies and some mint brownies and we are in business for the fourth. The other holidays require much more preparation and lots of expected dishes.

We are going to some friends for brunch......sort of a late breakfast. Linda always decorates to the nines in red, white, and blue. (I looked for my red, white and blue decor and couldn't locate the stuff....oops missed it again this year.) The only thing I am bringing is a blueberry sauce for the belgian waffles. I think I can do that. The food and decor is only a side dish to the good fellowship with made up of four couples. I look forward to a nice morning. The afternoon will be a rest up from a couple of busy days and then we will ready ourselves for the kids from Michigan. The evening will present itself with fireworks somewhere. The Assembly church in town always has a nice display but our neighbors across the street don't do too shabby a job either. Maybe we will park our bottoms in chairs in our front yard and save the gas.

We got a tip by phone that gas is going way up today. Both vehicles are at about three quarters of a tank. It doesn't pay to drive to the gas station to save on a quarter of a tank. I'm not sure where all this gas craziness is going to stop. Pretty soon we will get used to these four walls and just stay within them. When I stopped at a Dollar General that I would frequent when I worked at the high school, the guy that manages the place recognized me and struck up a conversation. He said that soon they would have to put a sign up that says, "Starting at a Dollar". According to him they are raising prices daily. God help us. He will take care of us.....yes, he will. I shudder.
